In The Kitchen with Hannah Crerar

Human Design + Astrology reader, Soul Psychologist, Yoga + Meditation Teacher, and Reiki practitioner

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Hannah. Being a Gemini with a very curious mind and multiple different passions, my work can’t be summed up in one neat title. I am a Human Design + Astrology reader, Soul Psychologist, Yoga + Meditation Teacher, and Reiki practitioner. Chef is certainly not on the list, but that is where being Nikki (Assortment co-founder)’s sister comes in handy. Over the years I have enjoyed some of the best meals in the biz.

What’s your food philosophy?

From a really young age, I’ve loved a diet full of fruit and veggies. Much to Mum’s delight, she never had to hide the greens. I like to eat living food that is as close to nature as possible. I always look to nature for remedies anytime I am sick, making all sorts of potions and lotions from the garden.

In 2020 I became really interested in the work of the Medical Medium and have been following a health protocol of his for the past year and a half. It has been phenomenal for my energy and hormones. As a general rule I drink celery juice most mornings. I also loosely follow the principles of food combining, I’ll structure my meals from light to heavy. The first meal will be fruit as it is super hydrating and digests faster than anything else. Proteins and starches digest at different rates so I’ll choose to incorporate them later in the day.

My go Assortment favs are the vegan miso carrot pasta, Thai style cashew and basil stir fry, Vietnamese salad and the roasted cauli.

Final thing – I love to pour intention into my food. I believe everything is vibration and if your food has been made with love, your cells absorb all that goodness.

How do you start your day?

First thing I do is tongue scrape, face massage, stretching and 20 minutes of meditation. Then it’s lemon water and celery juice time.

What’s your go-to mid-week meal?

Assortment roast veges, big salads, zucchini noodles, the vegan miso carrot pasta and I love anything wrapped in nori

What’s always in your pantry or fridge?

Celery and rockmelon

If you could only eat 5 foods for the rest of your life what would they be?

Melon, carrot, avocado, zucchini, dates and nori wraps, I know it’s 6 but I need all the textures; crunchy, creamy, soft, juicy, sticky and then something salty!

Where would we find you on a Friday night?

Either spending time with friends enjoying some of the beachside bars in manly or making dinner together at home, or a nice solo evening doing something wholesome like a beach stroll, yoga class, or infrared sauna.

What are your tips for getting a better night’s sleep?

YOGA NIDRA!! It translates to yogic sleep and it’s an effortless form of meditation done lying down on your back. Half an hour is the equivalent to 2 hours sleep. It’s the best way to catch up on sleep debt and improve the quality of actual sleeping time. There are loads on insight timer and I offer some of my own. Other things that help are eliminating blue light, gentle stretching in the evening and eating dinner early! (I need to get better at that last tip).

Quick fire:
  • Cook or clean – Cook
  • Tea or coffee – Tea
  • Sweet or savoury – Savoury + sweet together in the same meal – I need all the flavour profiles!
  • Dine-in or takeaway – Dine-in
  • Wine or cocktails – Cocktails
  • Breakfast or dinner -Dinner
  • Salad or fries – Salad
