In The Kitchen with Kasia Stanicich

A series where we take a closer look into how the everyday cook fills up their cup, fridge, pantry, and bellies.

Kasia is a an OG assortment member, signing up from the nearly the week of launch. She’s a busy woman working as digital creator, makeup artist and office administrator in Christchurch.

What’s your food philosophy?

Easy, tasty and lifestyle-focused – I am often on the run so food that is quick but nutritious or can be partially prepped in advance is my favourite.

What does a day on your plate look like?

Much like a day in my life – very varied! I tend to eat breakfast as I run out the door (so honestly, toast with a spread and maybe some banana…!) then lunch will often be the dinner leftovers and I am a HUGE snacker. I’d happily eat platter-style for the rest of my life.

How does assortment work for you?

While I appreciate structure and routine, it doesn’t work for me and my food. My weekday evenings are often spent out, my partner is usually tied up with rugby or work commitments so I love that Assortment gives me the flexibility to opt in and out of meals each week, with no risk of food waste. I am also… a very.. picky.. eater… so being able to omit tomatoes is a godsend.

Who does the cooking in your household?

50/50!

Who’s the best cook in the house?

I am much more adventurous, which could land me as being a bad cook.. but at least I tried! I did just ask my partner across the room and he said me with no hesitation, so let’s roll with it.

What has been your biggest cooking mishap?

Good grief… TikTok. I made this ‘Italian pasta’ thing and I honestly had to just bin it. No redemption there.

What’s your go-to easy mid-week meal?

Pesto pasta – fill it with veggies, anything in the fridge plus it keeps so well and can easily be a meat free meal!

Most hated food?

Eggs. I know.

What fills up your cup?

I am an introverted extrovert, so while I appear loud (and very over the top sometimes) nothing makes me happier than recharging in the company of friends who get it. The ones who you can run to Kmart with, lie on the couch watching TikTok with or invite over for dinner without it having to be a big hooooorah.

How do you relax?

Actively – and I don’t mean fitness wise haha. I am often cleaning, pottering or playing with the dog.

Two things people don’t know about you?

My friends know this but I am HIGHLY opinionated.. Haha and also not as much of a neat freak as I probably appear. For every tidy corner, there’s 3 chaotic ones. They’re just organized chaos.

If you could only eat 5 foods for the rest of your life what would they be?

Chocolate, guacamole, prosciutto, cucumber & pasta. Basically a platter + pasta lol.
